DMK at-home skincare | Working together with your salon professional

Great skin care begins at home, particularly when used in conjunction with regular in-salon facials. DMK understands the importance of this two-pronged strategy, having developed its signature enzyme facials in conjunction with a prescriptive DMK at-home skincare range. Best of all, you can experience it first hand with our special deal: purchase three enzyme facials, and receive a free set of DMK at-home skincare products (valued at $120) tailored to your particular skin type.

Understanding enzymes

Enzymes are natural living substances in the body to regulate health. They also work with some minerals in the body to create a system of antioxidants to eliminate toxic free radicals. Enzymes should strengthen the skin’s structural integrity to make cells thrive and live healthily. With Enzyme Therapy, skin can be firmer, clearer, softer, and more responsive to other skincare treatments.

DMK’s Enzyme Therapy is aimed at creating a healthier venue for cells to keep them thriving and capable of generating healthy skin. According to DMK founder, Danné Montague, this therapy is effective because it goes deeper than the skin’s surface and works with the natural systems of the body. This way, Enzyme Treatment rebuilds the skin’s core strength to make it more vibrant and healthier.

With Enzyme Therapy, your skin’s function can be optimised as the treatment stimulates lymphatic drainage, oxygenation, and circulation to strengthen and tighten skin as collagen production is enhanced. It also encourages reverse osmosis to flush through the cells and clear away the free radicals and toxins, and increase free water levels to make skin youthful and bouncy.

DMK at-home skincare

Everyday applying Home Prescriptives helps to protect the skin from the sun, free radicals and other environmental factors while they assist to maintain and prolong the results achieved in DMK professional treatments.

Acne prone skin

Acne is a chronic inflammatory condition of the hair follicle and its sebaceous gland in which dead cells block the follicle and trap bacteria and oil in the pore; forming pustules, cysts, blackheads, and scars. There is no single cause for acne to develop. It can be a genetic condition or triggered by internal/ external factors such as hormonal imbalances, stress, medications, and climate conditions. Not surprisingly, acne is often accompanied by low self-esteem, anxiety and depression amongst teenagers and adults.

DMK’s Deep Pore Cleanser, Herb & Mineral Mist, Protect, ACU Creme work together to help flush out embedded impurities, naturally toning and detoxifying the skin, and gently regulate cell turnover to return your skin to balanced harmony.

Active skincare | “Are AHAs and retinols okay to use in the summer?”

Active skincare | “Are AHAs and retinols okay to use in the summer?”

Look, you won’t find anyone who loves active skincare as much as us. All of those lovely, resurfacing serums that reduce the appearance of large pores, fade dark spots and soften fine lines and wrinkles. AHAs and BHAs are chemical exfoliants. They work gently to break bonds on the skin’s surface, allowing dead skin cells to be removed without a manual scrub.

Up until your early-30s, your cells turn over every 28 days, creating a fresh layer of untouched, pristine skin. But after you hit your mid-30s, cell regeneration slows down, turning over every 50, 60, or 70 days. Slower cell regeneration is what causes your face to look dry, dull and wrinkled.

How active skincare works

Retinol sinks into your skin and speeds up cell turnover, causing your body to churn out fresher, smoother skin again. It essentially tricks your body into thinking it’s younger than it is, effectively creating a real-life Benjamin Button scenario.

Although alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) facial treatments and retinoids keep your skin clear and glowing, these products can be irritating during the summer months.

Experts recommend lightening up on products that can be sun-sensitising, like glycolic/AHA and retinoids, especially under our harsh Australian sun.

If you’re a long-time user, and don’t already, switch to only wearing actives at night, or even every other night.

Why you need SPF

We know we don’t have to say it, but use sun protection. All year round. Should you have downgraded your SPF (or even worse, not used one) in the winter, then now is certainly the time to go back to daily SPF.

We have a few excellent ones from UltraCeuticals and HydroPeptide which offer broad-spectrum sun protection and non-greasy formulations to ensure your carefully applied face doesn’t end up sliding down come noon. Both SPFs also come in a tinted option, which is a great low-maintenance summer look.

HydroPeptide

If you like your skincare to come with a side dose of seriously science-y research, Hydropeptide is the one for you. Founded by a bona fide Australian scientist, using the science of epigenetics and peptides to formulate results-driven, luxurious skincare. HydroPeptide’s team of geneticists formulate the products with powerful gene signalling ingredients, like peptides, that tell your skin cells to act in a healthy, gorgeous way.

Our favourite: Eye Authority Eye Cream, $120. A silky formulation that glides on and instantly brightens the eye area, reducing the look of expression lines, wrinkles and puffiness over time.

Omnilux

Originally developed in partnership with Cancer Research UK, Omnilux’s non-invasive LED technology is a favourite with the red-carpet set. Over 1,000 clinical studies have shown that phototherapy, the exposure of cells and tissue to low levels of visible or near infrared light, enhances skin at a cellular level, increases blood flow and increases collagen, elastin synthesis and cell proliferation.

Our favourite: Omnilux Contour Face, $949. We’ve treated in-salon with Omnilux for years, but love the idea of Contour Face – the first flexible and portable home-use mask that uses light emitting diodes (LEDs) to reduce fine lines and wrinkles and improve overall skin tone and health.

Priori

Each person’s skin chemistry is different. That’s why Priori formulated its line of skincare products to respond to individual environment, nutrition and genetics. Packed with antioxidants, hyaluronics and natural ingredients such as turmeric actives, green tea, grapeseed and licorice, Prior products are perfect if you’re not quite sure what you need in your skincare routine, but definitely want it to replenish, hydrate, protect and repair.

Our favourite: LCA fx110 Gentle Cleanser, $55. Rich and complex, this gentle facial cleanser is perfectly suited for all skin types including the most sensitive. A soothing gel texture calms and repairs skin while LCA Complex perfectly smooths the surface of your skin – great for under makeup – and protects it from daily environmental damage.

Vida Glow

Collagen is the second most abundant substance in our body after water and is the building block of our tissues, making up 75% of our skin, over 90% of our ligaments and tendons and 35% of our bones, not to mention our hair, nails and cartilage. So it stands to reason as we lose it – over half by our 50s – we should try and put it back in. Vida Glow developed an all natural pure marine collagen, derived from the scales and skin of ocean fish.

Our favourite: Original Marine Collagen, $59.95. A carefully curated ingestible blend featuring native Australian superfoods, sustainably sourced marine collagen and bioactive plant compounds to boost both collagen levels and production.

Zero downtime, maximum glow-up | 5 of the best party beauty treatments

Zero downtime, maximum glow-up | 5 of the best party beauty treatments

#1 Omnilux and Healite

An absolute favourite of all the party beauty treatments when it comes to celebs prepping for the red carpet. The Omnilux and Healite Therapy helps activate your skin’s natural renewal system to reverse the effects of aging, while restoring a younger and healthier appearance. The warming lights plump the deepest skin cell layers, stimulating collagen and elastin, resulting in instant and long-lasting radiance.

#2 Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning is a bit like shaving your face, only it’s performed professionally and takes care of much more than peach fuzz. Number two on our party beauty treatments list might sound a little strange, but it’s a hugely popular pre-big-event treatment thanks to the fact that it gets rid of facial hair, can make your face feel baby soft, and gives you the ultimate smooth base for makeup application.

#3 Lash lift

Unlike some party beauty treatments, this one’s easy to work out: a lash lift is exactly that. It lifts your lashes from the root to create a natural and subtle curl – like a perm for your lashes. It adds the illusion of length to your lashes, as well as making your eyes appear bigger. Silicone pads are placed onto your eyelids to mould the shape of your eyelashes. A bonding gel is then be used to grip your lashes onto the pad in an upwards and outwards direction. Following this, a perming solution, followed by a neutralizer and (finally) a lash conditioner will be put onto your lashes. Last step: a tint to finish off.

#4 Spray tan

Good, old fake tan – the easiest way to go from zero to golden glow in a flash. Skip makeup on the day, and deodorant – both can act as barriers. Also decide how “deep” you would like to go, whether that’s a picture reference, or an occasion – say a week-long holiday or just the one big night. We’ll work our way down the body doing the front first and then your back, making sure there are no crease marks on knees, bums and knuckles. Bring loose, dark clothing and nothing that may rub the tan off. The guide colour of your tan will appear darker than the finished result, and will wash off in the first shower.

#5 Eyebrow wax and tint

Brow maintenance can take off years, lack of sleep and even physical imperfections. It’s a great, non-invasive solution to brightening the face. If you feel you have small eyes, or they’re too far apart, a well-shaped brow can address that lack of symmetry. A wax and tint is the perfect way to finesse these frames to your face.

Need to look your best for a special occasion? Or just need an end-of-year glow-up (and who doesn’t at the end of 2020??) We have all our treatments and practitioners listed in our handy online booking portal – we can’t wait to see you.

Skin and your lymphatic system | DMK lymphatic drainage

Skin and your lymphatic system | DMK lymphatic drainage

Think of lymphatic drainage like a waste management service for your body. The big-ticket player – that is, your heart – pumps oxygen- and protein-rich blood out through the arteries and into the body’s tissues and organs. The veins carry blood containing carbon dioxide, unused proteins and other waste products back to the heart. Around 90% of the blood gets sent back through the veins.

What is “lymph”?

So what about the other 10%? This stuff is lymph, the fluid component that leaks out into the body’s tissues through the very tiny blood vessels known as capillaries.

Here is where your lymphatic system takes over, pushing the fluid out of the lymphatic capillaries and into larger lymphatic collector vessels. These sit just under the surface of your skin. When lymph builds up thanks to excess toxins – protein, waste, cellular debris, bacteria, viruses, excess fat (basically, the festive period) – it can result in puffiness, particularly around the eye and jawline.

Lymphatic drainage massage

You can help your system out with a light lymphatic drainage facial, comprising light strokes starting at your forehead. From the centre of the face, ensure you’re always working in sweeping motions outwards. For each movement that you’re doing, you want to be draining outwards towards the lymph nodes which are found in the bottom front and behind the ears right down the back of the neck and right into just above the collarbone.

DMK Enzyme Therapy Treatments

Skin guru Danné Montague King is at the forefront of lymphatic drainage as a beauty elixir, pioneering his cult Signature Enzyme Treatment. It changes dead cell material into a weak acid and flushes it away (a process called enzyme hydrolysation) and brings new cells to the surface.

Over 40 years has been spent perfecting DMK’s signature Enzyme Therapy treatments, utilising the beneficial effects of transfer messenger enzymes. It encourages blood circulation, oxygenation and the lymphatic drainage system while simultaneously, through reverse osmosis, helping to flush away toxins and free radicals as well as stimulating collagen production.

The result? Plump, hydrated skin; immediate, long-lasting results – with cheekbones even Keira Knightley would side eye. Check it out in action below, or even better, book in to experience it yourself.
